November 29, 2007

So lately I have been weirdly obsessed...

not with scrapbooking supplies (although in truth that obsession never ends) but with handbags and shoes. Now, you might say "you're a woman, of course you're obsessed with handbags and shoes" but you see, I've never been THAT kind of woman. You know, the woman who drools over the latest Chanel bags and Jimmy Choo heels like they're, um, well, like they're the latest AC alpha rubons....

But lately, i have found myself buying shoes and handbags. Not tons, mind you. But I've definitely bought more of these things (oh, and jeans!) than I have in the last 2 years combined (that says more about my previous shopping habits than it does about my current ones).

Okay, so I've recently acquired three handbags and five new pairs of shoes. Now, one handbag was quite spendy, and the other two, not so much. And the shoes...well, let's see. I needed winter boots, so I am not counting those. And I needed a pair of black flats, so those can't be included in my total. And the little black quilted ankle boots? Did I really need those? Well, of course I did. I needed them to trudge my two children back and forth to Tae Kwon Do. I can walk 15 blocks in 4 inch heels, right? And if Luca happens to dart away into oncoming traffic, I will pull a Carrie Bradshaw and gracefully run in said 4 inch heels to grab him. Right?

Anyway, Michael came home last night and (weirdly) noticed my new handbag. Okay, so the tags were still on it, but come on, one black handbag looks like another to men, right? I didnt' think he'd notice. Or care. But he said "don't you already have a black handbag?" "Yes." "So why'd you get another one?" "Well, this one's really roomy, so if I am spending the whole day away from the apartment, I can fit lots in it. Like my yoga stuff." (that's where I went wrong......watch what happens next.) "Your yoga stuff?? In your purse?? How's your yoga mat going to fit in there? And your sweaty yoga clothes??"

Okay, so I tried. But come ON,  overstock.com is an addiction not easily shaken. Seriously, it's HARD to turn down cool flats that are 87% off retail. So what that they only come in a size 11 and hot pink is the only color left. Gotta have em!

Oh, and one more thing

Tonight I'm in the kitchen getting Julian and Luca milk to go with their dinner, and I hear Julian say "chicken, banana, veg-A-bles...I don't like veg-A-bles.."

So I say from the kitchen "Julian, you just have to eat a few bites."

And he says "Um, I wasn't talking to you. I was talking to myself." And then he repeats "Chicken, banana, veg-A-bles. I don't like veg-A-bles."

Just so I don't think I'm the center of his universe or anything.

Finally the pic.....

Here's the pic I promised a few days ago.....Img_0620the advance copy of my upcoming book Scrap Simple.... it arrived from Memory Makers Books and it looks really good! Okay, the pic is a little blurry...sorry...really the pics in the book are better. But the colors are perfect, the text looks so clean and sharp...my editors Amy and Christine really did a wonderful job (thanks girls).

Just got back from Long Island--we decided to go out there so as to avoid the Thanksgiving weekend rush, and it was so pretty-the fall leaves were the most perfect color.  Plus, Scoop had an UNBELIEVABLE sale...got some AG jeans reduced from $220 to $39 dollars! even though I have to get them shortened to fit my stumpy legs, they're still going to be a bargain in the end...Luca wanted to buy a t-shirt, but unfortunately his $5 allowance didn't cover the cost of the $345 DOLLAR KID'S TEE SHIRT.....oh wait, it was on sale. For $220. For a kid's t-shirt. Who BUYS this stuff???

I also am rededicating myself to getting in shape. I've decided that I need a class to attend so that I feel more "compelled' to exercise, so I'm resuming yoga. At one point, I practiced astanga yoga 5 times a week or more, and I was seriously CUT. Now, not so much. Anyway, I went to a 2 hour class out in sag Harbour on Saturday, and then today, went to a class at Jivamukti Yoga near Union Square. It feels SO GOOD to practice again. It feels like heaven. Heaven. I am going to try and get to class 3-4 times a week, so I will post again in a few weeks and let you know whether I'm still at it. I have a feeling i will be. I just have to remember this feeling and how good it is.

Sharing some pics of our lovely weekend.... Img_0722 Img_0714 Img_0647Img_0653 Img_0648

Just when you think you know someone...

...you find out they downloaded the Radiohead album and DIDN'T PAY ANYTHING FOR IT....okay, so DH and I and the kids decided to get away this weekend, loaded up our cheap rental car with a couple of bags of haphazardly picked out clothing, some scrap stuff (again, haphazard, although I did remember my trimmer this time) and headed out last night. We were bickering about something..oh yes, I remember...Luca wants to start violin lessons and they're expensive, so I'd spent a great deal of time researching prices and classes in the city. I'd found a relatively inexpensive program in Brooklyn, but the problem was that the classes ran all day on Sunday. So anyway, we were "discussing" whether Luca should take the class or not (Michael being con, me being pro)...and in an effort to move the discussion to more neutral territory, Michae mentions that he downloaded the new Radiohead album and he really liked it.

"So what did you pay for it?"
"Nothing."
"Tell me you're kidding me."

No, he wasn't kidding. He went on to say that most people didn't pay anything for the album (for those of you who have no idea what I am talking about, Radiohead made their latest album available for download and is allowing people to pay whatever they wish for it, including nothing.) and I said, well, you're not everyone. You are an artist and to me that's sorta like stealing. Anyway, after that we decided not to talk for a while. Yes, I was annoyed, but all this came at the end of three weeks of him working crazy 80 hour weeks, or maybe longer...so there's always that "re-entry" period of having him back in our lives more. Which in the end, of course, is great, but the transition is tough.

Anyway, one of the reasons I haven't blogged much this week is because I REALLY wanted to share with everyone pics of the ADVANCE COPY OF MY BOOK!!! but I keep forgetting to transfer them from my camera and then I don't blog because I forgot to do the transfer, and so it goes. So anyway, I am not at home now, but when I do get home, I will upload some sneak peaks of the book and let me tell you, I am really happy with how it turned out. It's such a process to get the book written, the art work completed, the cover finalized, etc etc that when it's all done it's sort of hard to get your mind around it.

So I am heading with Michael and the boys over to our favorite local donut shop out here on Long Island. Just what i need, right?? (I bought myself a pair of Antik jeans on ebay and yes, they're my size but somehow, oddly, they don't fit....wonder why that is? I think I'll mull it over while munching on a nice cinnamon donut...)

The mojo left..and then reappeared....

I was feeling low yesterday; Michael has been working some INSANE hours, and I haven't had a chance to scrap for like a week (which is an eternity to a crazy scrapper like me), nor was I feeling even the motivation to scrap. But I was asked today to submit to a cover call for Memory Makers, and some friends of mine sent me some GREAT photos to work with (MM asked us to use a photo of a girl). And suddenly I am psyched to scrap again. I am going to get the boys to bed by 7:30 and get cracking. I also have two layouts I need to finish up for my article for the May issue of MM, and another project that I am going to complete this week...really.

I am reading a great gothic novel by Jennifer Egan called The Keep. Has anyone read this? So far, I love it. Hard to explain what exactly it's about, but it's good.  Oh, and by the way, for those of you who emailed me advice about booking my Disney World Extravaganza...THANK YOU. I did finally book the trip..we're staying at the Animal Kingdom for 7 nights in January, and I've gotten ADRs at the Crystal Palace and a few other key places. Luca is psyched to become a real pirate under Captain Jack's tutelage...
